FAQs

What Happens When I Contact You?

If you feel counselling may be helpful for you, please contact me so that I can answer any questions you might have. We can arrange a telephone or online consultation to discuss what you would like to achieve from counselling. This initial consultation also works as an opportunity for you to see if you feel that I am the right person for you to work with.  You are under no obligation to have further sessions following the initial consultation.

What Happens at the First Session?

At the first session we will talk about what you want to achieve from counselling and work together in exploring how to make that happen. It gives you the opportunity to experience my counselling approach. It’s important we feel comfortable and relaxed with each other.

How Many Sessions Will I need?

There is no commitment to sign up for a minimum number of sessions, you may feel that you don’t want to continue after the first session. Each individual is different. During the first session we will discuss how many sessions you would like and tailor the work to that. Some people prefer to work short term, over 6-12 sessions, others prefer to work long term. Some people get what they need quickly.  For others it takes longer. Every person is different.

I kindly request our sessions must be paid for in advance. Sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 48 hours in advance or you will be responsible for the full session fee.

Will Everything I Say Remain Confidential?

Confidentiality is a key component of therapy. What you discuss in a session will not be shared with anyone else. However, there are a small number of exceptions to this, such as if I believe someone is at risk of serious harm or abuse. Confidentiality will be discussed at the beginning of our first session. If you require further information before this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Are You Supervised?

As part of my commitment to working professionally and ethically, I attend supervision in accordance with the BACP ethical framework. I discuss my work with a counselling supervisor, in such a way as not to identify my clients. My supervisor is bound by the same code of confidentiality and ethical framework.

Are You Professionally Regulated?

I am a registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am bound by their ethical framework.

Are You Insured?

I have full professional indemnity insurance.
